A Associação Ordem dos Pobres Cavaleiros do Templo de Jerusalém – OPCTJ aceitou o honroso convite da Câmara Municipal de Tomar para participar nas comemorações da Cidade Templária, no “Dia De Thomar”, no dia 01 de março de 2025.
A OPCTJ esteve representada pelo Grande Comendador Nascimento Costa, pelo Diretor do Museu Ordem dos Templários – MOT e por membros da Comenda Templária de S. João Baptista – Tomar, que transportaram o estandarte da OPCTJ.
A cidade foi fundada pelo Grão-Mestre D. Gualdim Pais, Cavaleiro Templário, a 01 de março de 1160, data do início da construção do castelo. Gualdim Pais viveu cerca de 5 anos na Terra Santa, de onde trouxe várias inovações arquitetónicas militares, como a torre de menagem e o alambor, do qual o castelo de Tomar é o melhor exemplo em Portugal. O dia 01 de março é feriado municipal e o castelo e a charola templários integram o complexo Castelo / Convento de Cristo, UNESCO 1983.
A associação encontra-se a trabalhar com o CITCEM – Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar «Cultura, Espaço e Memória» / unidade de I&D sediada na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto (FLUP) na concretização do Museu Ordem dos Templários – MOT, em coordenação com o Município de Tomar. O museu constituirá um centro agregador dos territórios em que a história e património tangível e intangível se cruzam com a Ordem do Templo.

The Association of the Order of the Poor Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem – OPCTJ accepted the honourable invitation of the Tomar City Council to take part in the “Thomar Day” celebrations of the Templar City on March 01, 2025.
The OPCTJ was represented by Grand Commander Nascimento Costa, the Director of the Museum of the Order of the Knights Templar – MOT and members of the Templar Commandery of St. John the Baptist – Tomar, who carried the banner of the OPCTJ.
The city was founded by Grand Master Gualdim Pais, a Knight Templar, on the 1st of March 1160, the date on which construction of the castle began. Gualdim Pais lived for around five years in the Holy Land, from where he brought various military architectural innovations, such as the watch-tower and the alambor, of which Tomar castle is the best example in Portugal. The 1st of March is a municipal holiday and the Templar castle and rotunda are part of the Castle/Convent of Christ complex, UNESCO 1983.
The association is working with CITCEM – Transdisciplinary Research Centre for «Culture, Space and Memory» (Research & Development unit based at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto – FLUP) on the Museum of the Order of the Knights Templar – MOT, in coordination with the Municipality of Tomar. The museum will be an aggregating centre for the territories where history and tangible and intangible heritage intersect with the Order of the Temple.
