A 1 de março de 1160 é lançada a primeira pedra do Castelo de Thomar pelo Mestre D. Gualdim Pais (há 861 anos), responsável pela construção e reformulação de muitos castelos estrategicamente importantes. O Mestre introduziu em Portugal as inovações militares templárias, de que são exemplos a torre de menagem e o alambor.
On March 1, 1160, the first stone of the Castle of Thomar was laid by the Master Gualdim Pais (861 years ago), responsible for the construction and reformulation of many strategically important castles in the region. The Master also introduced the Templar military innovations in Portugal, as the donjon and the alambor.
